i kinda need some advice too and it aint really about dating

[ How bad can it be? ]

[Beat sends directions on where to find him the following day and immediately goes off to retrieve his board.

When Hawks finds him, he would be balancing on the skateboard, getting ready to do a trick. Popping the board in the air, it rotates in a circle before he lands back on it. Beat punches the air and let's out a whoop.]

Still got it, yo!

[This entire time, he doesn't seem to even notice Hawks' approach.]

[ Hawks didn't come in swooping from above, but rather he walked up at that point, although inwardly he's kind of hesitating.

Wait, there's tricks involved?

His wings are huge, considering they're meant to allow him to take flight. They're big enough that if he wasn't holding his wing bones like he is, they'd be dragging on the ground. ]

Hey! [ Hawks smiles and waves a little bit. ]

[Beat immediately turns to the voice, waving a hand as he skates on over, remembering Hawks from their first interaction over the network.]

Yo! Man, I seen them on the phones, but it's hella different seein' 'em up close.

[His wings are larger than Beat expected, not having accounted for them when he first pitched the idea of teaching skateboarding. But he's not one to back away from something like this.]

You an' me's gonna have to make some adjustments, aight? Let's get you on this board. [He steps off, letting Hawks get on, giving him a couple of instructions on how to find his center of gravity and balancing himself on it.] Jus' take it nice an' easy. You don't gotta get of the ground 'til you's ready to.

Yeah? I get that a lot. [ Although at home it's more like people see them on TV before they see them in person.

Fortunately, he is used to adjusting his centre of gravity based on the fullness of his wings. ]

Sure, if it's a real problem, I can shed my feathers. [ Not his favourite thing to do. ]

I wonder if I can perch on it. [ That's a terrible idea, don't let him do that. ]

If that's gonna help ya figure it out, I ain't stoppin' you.

[Not like he knows any better.]

An' if you got any questions, jus' shoot, aight? D'you need help gettin' on?

[He'll offer a hand if he needs it.]

We'll see if it works out first.

[ Hawks glances at his hand and nods a little bit, grasping Beat's hand lightly. So all he has to do is just step up on the skateboard. He's not really taking account into the fact it has wheels though, so when he steps, his momentum pushes it into motion since physics exists. He isn't expecting that.

He stumbles right off the board immediately, letting out a noise that sounds suspiciously close to a squawk - but he'll deny it. ]

[It happens so quickly that Beat barely has any time to react after he lets go of Hawks. The skateboard flies off a short distance, stopping when it hits a nearby post, bouncing off until it rolls to a stop.]

Didn't think you was gonna fall on your ass that quick. You aight?

[He looks sheepishly at Hawks, he reaches out a hand once more to help him on his feet.]

[ Hawks laughs a little bit though and accepts the hand to get back to his feet. ]

I'm pretty sure that was my fault. Kinda underestimated that. I think I underestimated the wheels. Since it just kind of moved on its own.

[ That's physics for you. ]

C'mon, yo. Tha's like the first thing about skateboards, yo! We ain't talking 'bout hoverboards or nothin'!

[He goes to fetch the board, stepping on with ease and riding it back. He gets off once again when he's by Hawks.]

You ready for anotha' shot?

That's fair. It might surprise you, but I don't exactly use anything but my wings to get around.

[ That's right, he never learned to drive, or ride a bike, let alone a skateboard. ]

Oh I'm gonna get it.

[ He'll just...step onto it slower, get a feel for the board with one foot before he tries to get the other one into place. ]

[For a moment, Beat absentmindedly stares at Hawks' wings. They were certainly much larger than the one he's seen on the Reapers back home, so he can't help but wonder about its functionality. Or he had to deal with them in his everyday life. But he brushes that thought away, focusing on what they were doing instead.]

Nah, don't blame ya. Gotta be a waste if you ain't using them.

[This time he's ready in case there's another slip, watching the entire time as Hawks steps on.]

Tha's it, yo. Jus' take it real easy an' focus on your balance when you hop on.

They're my quirk, I use them a lot. [ Hawks chuckles lightly. ]

Alright, alright, I got this.

[ And...he does! He can manage to stand on the skateboard, although he shifts carefully to fix his centre of gravity. There. Now he feels more stable. ]

[Quirk? What's that? But he's a little too distracted seeing him balancing on it to ask right now.]

Hell yeah, you are! Aight, just get a feel for it. Gonna be wobbly while you gettin' used to it. When you got it, jus' give it a kick 'gainst the ground to get ya movin'.

[He does the action while stationary to give Hawks a bit more guidance.]

Jus' that it slow.

See you say that, but I'm kind of just glad I'm not moving just yet. [ Hawks takes a breath. Right. How hard can this be? Other people can do this. He's not afraid so much as skeptical of his ability.

He shifts his wings, raising them a bit more off the ground just to make sure he's not about to roll over any feathers and does the motion, sending him moving at a snail's pace.

To his credit he doesn't cry out, but he does wobble a bit. ] That is so weird!

[Okay, he gets that it might be scary and all, but that also seems like a bit of a waste too. So he tries to be encouraging instead, huge grin on his face.]

Don't gotta be nothing big, yo! You lucky I ain't pushin' ya or nothing.

[He's kidding. But when Hawks starts moving, the smile on his face grows wider, only to laugh at the comment.]

Weird? Whatchu expectin'? Movin' on the board's normal. An' you's doin' jus' that, yo!

[ He's not afraid!! He's definitely done scarier and riskier things in his life, but honestly, this is just strange. ]

I don't know, it's kind of like being on the ship. It's weird.

[ He'll propel himself a bit further forward. ]

It's okay, I find riding in cars weird too. [ Of course he doesn't drive - he doesn't have to. ]

[The entire time Hawks moves, Beat follows alongside him as best he could.]

Guess that makes sense, 'cause a' the wings and all. That mean you ain't ridin' on ships to get from place to place here?

[ Yeah he's not hard to keep up with, but he's slowly not wobbling anymore either. Huh, guess it is possible to accomplish with practice. ]

I've got a room on the ship I arrived in, I usually sleep there, or perch up on the mast sometimes. I mean, sit up on the mast. [ No, he's a percher. Very bird-like. ]

I zip around all over the place when I'm patrolling though. I'm really fast.

[While it's still pretty early on, Beat does notice that his companion seems to stand steadier on the board. He doesn't point it out, at least not immediately, so he wouldn't distract him.]

Whatchu patrolling for? You gettin' the bag with some of 'em bounties?

[ It's a remarkable accomplishment, but then again Hawks has always been able to do things he puts his mind to - this just hasn't been a priority. ]

No, not really. [ Hawks chuckles, because honestly, he's barely scraping together enough to keep himself fed. ] I like helping people, and protecting them. Patrolling is what I do at home, look for people who need help and assist them if I can.

[Hawks words resonate with him, being someone who feels the need to protect the ones he cares about too.]

I can respect that. Sometimes you gotta help out where ya can. [A shrug.] But it sounds like you can do'em bounties too. Ain't they up 'cause they did stuff to people.

[At least that's what it's looked like to him.]
