But I'd tailor the apology to how you messed up. Something specific, like remaking something you broke, or doing things you hate to get them things they wanted but couldn't have...I suppose this problem's probably bigger scale than that, but you get the idea.
The important thing is...trust is hard to repair. But it's not impossible. Things that may not seem to have helped at first might be stepping stones to healing.
