@everyone. If they're trying to prove nessie is real, why don't they just unlock the lake?
Katsuki
You don't have to do that every post.
Izuku
But he intended it for everyone??
Rody
You can't make him leave his friends out. :(

They were called 'No that's dipped in oil' back home for him.

Neither, but I think that could be a justified translation. Clarity was all I needed. It's vague to leave it open ended on what the chipped off item could be.

Wait do you guys not have chips/fries in Japan??
heir_conditioned: (017)

[personal profile] heir_conditioned 2024-01-03 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
We have a similar word in translation, something akin to fried potatoes, I'd think. But they're not chipped off, they're cut into strips or chunks sometimes.

[personal profile] anhonestsoul 2024-01-03 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, here those are called chips. In America they're called fries, so sometimes people get confused over them I guess.

Though now I'm kinda wondering about how Japanese-style chips sound. You know how to make them?
heir_conditioned: (MHA-79-80-086)

[personal profile] heir_conditioned 2024-01-04 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Chips. That's a more concise way to refer to them. I like that better. Fries makes sense too. I took a picture of the way we refer to it and wrote it underneath so you can sound it out.

[And yes, yes he did. An actual picture of Japanese writing since he's pretty sure they don't have different keyboards on this thing and that if he could understand every written language the text on the network would be pretty daunting.

But it's a picture, just on some paper with: γƒ•γƒ©γ‚€γƒ‰γƒγƒ†γƒˆ spaced out over it and their corresponding sounds under them. Shoto has also tried to include the food he's talking about, he hasn't tried it, because his diet can't be fries. But he has seen it. On TV or on passing billboards or even friends who have had it.]

That's what it is. My assumption is it's the same way, just fried, stripped potatoes.

[Woah hey, is that Japanese words? He zooms in to read each letter carefully.]

Woah, that's cool. So they're just called Fried Potato? Pretty straightforward.

I think that's the first time I've ever read Japanese! Didn't realize each letter was a sound

[Oh. The first time?? He hadn't even considered that, it never even struck him. Wow that's a really good feeling to have been someone's first on something language wise.]

Yes I'd think that's the closest. It's a pretty literal translation, I think. If you want to learn more written Japanese, I can help you. It is sounds, but there are various methods we use to write. Would you like to see your name for instance?
anhonestsoul: (pic#16646019)

[personal profile] anhonestsoul 2024-01-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Woah, you'd actually teach me?

Cool! Sure, do my name.
heir_conditioned: (pic#14881801)

[personal profile] heir_conditioned 2024-01-11 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I would. I'm not exactly great at all languages, but I can teach you ours.

[Yet again another picture of another written description.

It reads and looks as: ロディ ソウル with the appropriate lettering underneath it again to give an example of how his name looks.]

Your name is easier than mine since it's foreign, I can write mine similar to yours but in its complete form it looks like this.

[Another picture. Another script using θ½Ÿη„¦ε‡ as its dialogue and the lettering above it. Obviously last name first.]

This is to show you the difference, I don't expect you to remember how to write my name like that.

[And the picture with γ‚·γƒ§γƒΌγƒˆ and its appropriate lettering.]

That's acceptable if you want to learn it.

[personal profile] anhonestsoul 2024-01-12 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Woah, is that my name? Just those weird lines?

Holy crap, yours is complicated looking! Why's your name got two different ways to write it? Is it because it's Japanese?
heir_conditioned: (MHA-79-80-059)

[personal profile] heir_conditioned 2024-01-12 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Are they weird? His writing isn't the prettiest so maybe.]

Yes, that's your name. Your full name as I know it at least.

It is but it's alright. I got used to it. As for your other questions, yes, sort of. Shoto is also my hero name. Writing it more simply is also easier in that context, too. If you would like, I can leave a word every week for you at your door, you can take as many weeks as you'd like to learn it.
anhonestsoul: (pic#16854404)

[personal profile] anhonestsoul 2024-01-12 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! That's in Kanji? Is that what those letters are called? I see them all the time on electronics labels bit I can't read them

That actually sounds super cool! That won't be too annoying for you? If you want we can just do it over text if it'll be easier for you.
heir_conditioned: (058)

[personal profile] heir_conditioned 2024-01-12 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
The complex one is, yes. You recognized it already. That's good.

Text would be easier. I can write the word and send you a picture, then it's on your shellphone. I will make certain to write it in all three methods if there is a way in all three methods.
anhonestsoul: (pic#16646016)

[personal profile] anhonestsoul 2024-01-12 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright then, sounds like a plan then! Should I be calling you teacher, then?

Or wait, what do you guys call your teachers in Japan?
heir_conditioned: (048)

[personal profile] heir_conditioned 2024-01-12 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[OH? FIRST WORD TIME? Okay well not first word but FIRST WORD TIME?]

I can't tell if you're trying to be sarcastic.

[Not if he's in person or on here.]

Shoto will be fine if you'd like to. The word you're looking for is Sensei, but I have not earned it.

[To which the next picture with the words and letters arranged in their proper formats comes through.]

That can be your first one.
anhonestsoul: (Default)

[personal profile] anhonestsoul 2024-01-16 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sensei, huh? Well, if you're teaching me, I'll call you that. It's appropriate for us, right?

Alright, Sensei Shoto! I'll be looking forward to learning a lot from you!
heir_conditioned: (Shoto002)

[personal profile] heir_conditioned 2024-01-16 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
[...Okay, well, he doesn't actually have a problem with that. Sensei it is. But it does make Shoto have to give him lesson number one. Technically still telling him something improper, but... actually it feels fun so.]

It would be Shoto Sensei. Lesson 2.
I will contact you again soon with another lesson. Maybe you can teach me, too.

Take care.
