i kinda need some advice too and it aint really about dating
if something happened and you messed up big time

There is a such a thing as doing too much, and whether this need to apologize is really about her feelings or you wanting to ease your own guilt.

There's nothing wrong in showing your sincerity, but if she's truly fine with it then do you really have to keep pushing it?

[Ouch, that stings. Okay, maybe a part of him is doing it because of his guilt, but it would be a small part. With what happened to him, he feels the need to put his best foot forward.]

Then you should ask her what it is she would want. If she just wants your company, do that. If she wants you to buy her something, do it. And if there's something you know she likes, do that, too.

I don't know what the situation is or who this is about, but you should also consider that she might not like you beating yourself up so much about it.

[Despite the message, Beat is still caught off guard by the call, nearly dropping his phone. But he picks it up, video on and all. This whole thing is probably better said this way.]

Yo. [He's already rubbing the back of his neck, not sure where to even begin.] Betcha got a lotta stuff ya wanna ask.

[He'll just stare at Beat for a moment.]

Start from the beginning.

Aight. All a' us got shipped here from back home, right? Wasn't like that for me. Or leas' I think it ain't. I got stuck in this dream world called Songerein a coupla years back an' tha's where I first met ya an' a coupla others who's here too.

[He purses his lips, grimacing at the screen and Eustace.]

I'm guessin' you don't remember me though. Leas' tha's what I got after all the stuff we did together.

[There will be a slight arch of the brow and then a very slight widening of his eyes at the mention of himself.]

While I've heard of people who had been to other worlds... You said you met me in this dream world?

Yeah. You an' me got pretty close then.

We could hop back home and that world whenever. I was on my way back there from a trip home but wound up here instead... Guess that screwed up what I was remembering.

[There's a disconcerted frown at that. Able to...travel between worlds?]

...And you didn't remember any of it when you arrived here...

[Could there be others like him? People who had traveled to different worlds, met people there, but have no memory of it while here? Hearing that Beat met him in another world?? That definitely...makes him question a lot of things.]

You said there were others. Who?

Nah, yo! Nothin'! Then it all just came outta nowhere. Had a freakin' headache that made me eat dirt. Still hurts to remember a coupla things.

'Sides you, Steps— [A pause. He should probably stay away from the nicknames, huh?] Zelda. Denji.

[At least those are the people he's bumped into again. But similar to Eustace, there doesn't seem to be any recall from them as well. But there's an obvious pause as he adds one more name.]

Futaba. None a' you remember me, but she does. An' tha's why I feel like I screwed up.

[There's a slight arch of the brow. He thinks he's seen a mention of Zelda on the network, but never interacted with her. However, he knew Denji in this other world as well?]

It's not really your fault if you couldn't remember, especially if it was a memory loss that occurred against your will.

Even if it ain't, I still pretended that I didn't remember. Didn't 'fess up 'cause I thought she deserves someone who ain't gonna forget.

[He swallows a lump that had grown in his throat, still beating himself up for his decision. To think he was just giving someone else advice the day prior, and now he was the one asking for help from anyone willing to offer.]

I know it wasn't right now. But I still wanna do more for her. To show her I get it. That I'm still serious about her.

[..........................Ah.

Well, there will be something of a look that suggests yeah he was an idiot to do that, but he just lets out a small sigh.]

So you've already told her and everything then? Just so I'm clear.

You don't gotta look at me like that, yo! Already said I knew I screwed up.

[Somehow the judgment cuts more, now that he remembers the relationship he and Eustace had prior.]

Yeah, I fessed up on everything. She's was kinda hurt, but she took me back. [A grumble and a sigh. But there's a look of relief as well.] I'm hella lucky she gave me another chance.

Despite what you think... It's not the worst mistake you could have made. And if you have someone who is willing to date you, I imagine she would understand why you did what you did.

But my advice from before remains. You could live the rest of your life trying to make it up to her, and she might be okay with that. But you consider whether she really is or not. She might not like thinking you're putting some kind of burden on yourself for her sake, especially when you're just trying to ease yourself of your own guilt.

[There's that pained sheepish look again, unable to hide it from Eustace. It's hard to tell where the desire to do something special begins and the guilt ends. Before today, he's never really connected the two, but he's heard it enough times today for him to give it some serious thought. That and realizing that his own feelings may be manifesting in this manner.

He purses his lips for a moment, looking like he's about clap back, but he shakes his head instead. Beat lets out a deep sigh.]

Yeah, you's right. Don't want Shorty worrying about me like that. I already put her through enough shit. Still gonna be extra for her birthday, though. Already got a coupla thing's cookin' I don't plan on backin' out of.

[Then a pause, followed by a light chuckle.]

Never thought I'd be askin' you for advice like this, Wolfie.

[He doesn't see anything wrong with the birthday plan, so he won't comment on that. However, he will arch a brow at the last part.]

Because I don't remember you?

That and... I dunno, it's weird because you an' me was pretty close in the last place. Did a lot of stuff together.

You even took care a' when I got drunk one time. Heh.

[He's not sure how much he should say. Or not say. While he's glad there was someone who remembers him, and that person being the most important of then all, he's struggling when it comes to the others.]

Jus' good to know I can still count on ya.

[...Oh. That is a little surprising to hear. Given that he hasn't met Beat for long, it's hard for him to imagine they built up that kind of...friendship?

I can't promise I will act the same as whatever version of me you met in that other world. However, I can only imagine you must have been as much of a handful as I've observed so far already.

[That's a fair to be honest. Might take a while for him figure out a balance with what he knows and this new reality, but he'll take it for now.

That last comment though...]

C'mon, man. I ain't that bad! You gotta leas' gimme a chance.
